Gavin Emsden
Gavin has over 30 years experience in business – since graduating in business from Brighton Polytechnic. He has always worked in marketing and specifically research, as he has a keen interest in understanding people and why they do what they do.
Recently semi-retired, Gavin spent the past 20 years at Nestlé, where he was responsible for shaping the consumer marketing teams. In the 6 months prior to leaving he jointly set up and launched an NUK&I marketing capability programme and academy. He is now a research consultant, and has also re-engaged in one of his childhood hobbies – tennis. He also manages his son’s football club.
Whilst at Nestlé Gavin was part of a self-managed learning programme that was set up for senior leaders. This was instrumental in his decision to leave Nestlé and to focus more on what is important to him. He has always had a keen interest in helping others learn, and the self-managed learning approach resonated strongly. It was this program that led him to become a Governor at SML College in 2018.
